Meet the Facilitators

Dr Michael Kiragu (Lead Facilitator)

Dr. Michael Kiragu is the Founder and Principal Consultant at Bell Consultants, bringing over 20 years of experience in the development sector. With an impressive track record, Michael has secured more than USD 100 million in grants from major funders, including PEPFAR, The Global Fund, UNICEF, UNAIDS, WHO, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Elton John AIDS Foundation, Aidsfonds, The Freedom Fund, and Frontline AIDS.

In addition to his fundraising achievements, Michael has trained over 1,600 non-profit professionals in various aspects of grant fundraising. Driven by a strong belief that anyone can learn to write effective grant applications, he is committed to equipping others with the skills needed to succeed in grant fundraising.

Michelle Stein (Guest Facilitator)

Michelle Stein transforms mediocre fundraising into money-making magic for non-profits worldwide. After securing multi-million-pound donations for heavyweights like The British Museum and WaterAid, she now shows fundraisers how to turn their awkward donor relationships into natural partnerships that bring both joy and big cheques. When she’s not helping fundraisers fall back in love with their jobs, you’ll find her chasing endorphins in Cape Town’s tidal pools.

A self-proclaimed Luddite turned AI enthusiast, Michelle resisted smartphones until her Nokia’s ‘6’ button finally gave up. But in 2023, she discovered how AI could transform trust applications – from analysing funder requirements to generating fresh angles for proposals. Now she’s helped over 1,800 fundraisers harness AI, showing them step-by-step how to strengthen their trust applications without losing what makes their organisation special. Because if this former tech sceptic can make AI a valuable part of her trust-writing process, anyone can.

What Members had to Say

By the end of the course, my employees had acquired a wide range of fundraising skills for our organisation. It's not just his training skills that impress me, Michael was a joy to interact with because of his positive attitude and ability to never give up on my team. Not only can he bring the kind of skills and experience you are looking for in your organisation but he can also quickly become an asset and help both your institution and your employees grow.

Dr. May Maloba Chief Executive Director, GHI - Global Health Innovations

Bell Consultants are market leaders in grant writing. Teaching it with the ease of an experienced grant receiver and the patience of a kindergarten teacher. Mike led the process of sharing his wealth of knowledge together with his team. I have grown and the current progress made in grant writing can be attributed to him and his beautiful team. I recommend Mike and his team for grant writing and any other market-related consultancies.

Bernard Omondi Osir Senior Associate Monitoring and Measurement - TaRL Africa

"After several years of grant writing, I still struggled to get donors. But after being trained on the RISERS model by Dr. Kiragu through his Bell Consultants, I understood where I used to go wrong and turned around my writing for both non-profit and consultancy proposals enabling me to get funded and consultancies respectively . I highly recommend Dr. Kiragu's training that will help you or your non-profit learn how to; scout for donors aligned to your work as opposed to waiting for the calls for funding, write articulately, and ensure that your websites clearly articulate what is required by most donors, among others."
